SweetHerts

Last night was the launch of the SweetHerts Sisterhood, a Hertfordshire based monthly meeting for women (and a few brave men!) to try out lots of exiting crafts while quaffing wine and eating sweeties! Make Do Mend were there to teach the group how to make fabric flowers, which were creatively made into hairclips, brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
It was all huge amounts of fun, and all agreed that it must definitely become a regular occurence, with talk of cake decorating, retro make up lessons and more. There are whispers that next month the theme will be Christmas card making, so drop Louise and Fiona a line at SweetHerts@hotmail.co.uk if you live in the area and want to pop along.

See, we weren't just drinking wine for the fun of it, the glasses were very handy for drawing out our peonies!

Beautiful ribbon rose hairclips

Now, that is how to make a suffolk puff!
Beautiful bunting...perhaps bunting stitching could be yet another SweetHerts class? Any further suggestions to the SweetHerts Sisters...

high tea of highgate

High Tea in Highgate, North London is a beautiful tea shop run by Georgina Worthington. Georgina used to work in fashion, so as you would expect, the shop is exquisitely decorated with checkerboard flooring, mismatching china and charming illustrations by Charlotte Hardy painted onto the walls. The cakes are delicious and all made at High Tea, even with gluten free alternatives.

The menders will be holding classes there occasionally, so keep an eye out here and at the shop for dates and times of knitting classes, crochet lessons and sewing workshops.
You can also arrange to hold any of our range of classes, or a bespoke class of your choice at this quaint shop, instead of at your own venue, for a small increase in fee per head.

christmas craft workshop

Ho, ho, ho! This is a festive and seasonal workshop which is ideal for Christmas parties and those interested in making their own original recycled and hand made decorations and cards. Jollied along by mince pies and mulled wine supplied by Make.Do.Mend, you will craft baubles, ornaments, angels and Christmas trees using traditional sewing techniques, fabrics, ribbons recycled materials and mixed media. You do not need to be expertly experienced within the sewing disciplines.

If you want a class catered towards knitting or crochet, patterns for crocheted stars, baubles and candy canes or tiny knitted Christmas stockings, beads, mittens and Fair Isle decorations are also available.

Each participant will achieve at least one finished item, or be well equipped to finish off the items at home. The workshop will explain simple sewing, knitting, crochet or embroidery techniques.

Participants can bring any interesting buttons or fabrics if they wish. Make.Do.Mend. will supply haberdashery and a variety of interesting yarns, fabrics, wadding, threads, ribbon, buttons, safety pins, beads, sparkles and anything needed to finish the project.
